A digital dental implant? That doesn't make any sense, you may think. You can find out why it does in fact make so much sense in this edition of our newsletter, because the SHS portfolio company TRI recently presented this innovation in Cologne.
The Swiss medical technology company AOT, in which SHS has been invested since 2014, reached a particularly important milestone. For the first time, a bone incision was performed during an operation using a robot-controlled laser.
SHS is growing and we are therefore seeking new team members. We would be particularly pleased to hear from more women applicants. Dörte Höppner explains what can make the private equity and venture capital sector interesting for women. She is one of the initiators of the Level20 initiative, which aims to increase the proportion of women in the investment industry.
We also recently completed the third investment transaction from our fifth fund. The intelligent adaptors produced by Betterguards add joint protection features to medical technology and sports products.
Further transactions are currently being prepared and we will be happy to keep you up to date.

With its fifth fund (SHS V), SHS has invested a mid single-digit million amount in Betterguards Technology GmbH. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Berlin with a production facility in Brandenburg, the company develops and produces intelligent components (so-called adaptors) that can be integrated into sports shoes, bandages or safety footwear by B2B partners. This unique feature serves to protect wearers against joint injuries.

AOT announces First-In-Man Clinical Use of the CARLO® Device |

| |
The Swiss SHS portfolio company AOT today announced the First-In-Man clinical use of the CARLO® device at the University Hospital Basel. CARLO® was utilized during the performance of a midface osteotomy. For the first time, the cut of human bone was performed with a robotic laser osteotome instead of a conventional tool, such as a saw.
AOT is the first company worldwide to develop a surgical robotic platform, named CARLO®, to cut bone with a ‘cold’ photoablation laser, leaving bone structures intact and vital. In 2014 German medical technology investor SHS invested in the company. Since then, SHS has also supported AOT with its extensive expertise regarding regulatory issues and product launches in the healthcare sector.
